Discover the dramatic volcanic landscapes of the Hachimantai area on a guided hiking adventure shaped by the season and the day’s weather conditions. Depending on conditions, explore the rugged Yakehashiri Lava Flow, hike around the summit of Hachimantai, or walk through the steaming, bubbling landscapes of Goshogake Onsen or the Tamagawa Onsen Nature Trail.
During the spring snow season, the hike may also include a visit to the famous Hachimantai Dragon Eye, a striking natural phenomenon created as the snow covering Kagami-numa Pond begins to melt.
Along the way, learn how centuries of volcanic activity have shaped the mountains, hot springs and distinctive ecosystems of the region. The exact route will be selected on the day to provide the safest and most rewarding experience.

Yakehashiri Lava Flow walk
Walk across the Yakehashiri Lava Flow, which feels like something out of this world.
Hachimantai Summit Loop Hike
Walk the loop course past Kagaminuma pond (Dragon eye in spring) to the Hachimantai Summit and back to the Hachimantai Resthouse.
Hachimantai Summit to Kuroyachi Hike
Hike the trail from Hachimantai resthouse, past the summit and then down to the Kuroyachi wetlands area.
Goshogake Onsen Nature Trail
Walk around the nature trail surrounding the Goshogake Onsen area, with the bubbling geysers.
Tamagawa Onsen Nature Trail
Walk around the nature trail surrounding the Tamagawa Onsen area, with the bubbling geysers.

Relax in the vehicle as you transfer back to Morioka station to finish the tour.
