Discover the story of Rikuzentakata’s recovery on this relaxed cycling tour through the city.
Beginning at the Takata Matsubara Roadside Station, cycle between important sites connected to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, including the remains of Tapic 45, the famous Miracle Pine and the former Kesen Elementary School. Continue through the newly developed city centre to see how Rikuzentakata has been rebuilt and how the local community is creating a new future while preserving the memories and lessons of the disaster.
Combining gentle cycling with local stories, this tour offers a meaningful insight into the city’s loss, resilience and ongoing recovery.

Your local guide will take your on the Ebikes to some special view points of Rikuzentakata city and tell you about the reconstruction that occurred here after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011.
